Scientific fact- We buy to get away from boredom in life and not because of our needs.
Now, before you make me the center of your hatred, please bear with me for a few minutes and then you can decide my fate.
I would now request you to ponder upon the statements I am to make below and then answer honestly to yourself.
- Are you really in need of that flashy latest mobile phone from your favorite mobile company, when your current phone performs well, if not better in all the tasks that you throw at it?
- Are you really in need of that latest, mouth watering bezel less LED TV when your current LED TV streams the latest episode of Game of Thrones equally well?
- Do you really care to buy that latest Hexa core/Octa core processor Laptop when your current one lets you create and edit Word/PDF files with little to no hesitation?
So, I hope you have answered the above questions in your mind.
Now, if you answered ‘YES’, to the above questions, then I would like to congratulate you, my friend on being a prudent spender though a lover of luxurious and costly items.
BUT, if your answer to at least two of the questions were ‘NO’, then, my friend you belong to the 97% category of the human population who buy what they buy to kill monotony, to kill routine, to kill depression.
You belong to the category that drives most of the sale of the companies like Apple Samsung, Sony, Lenovo. It’s because of us (97%) that these companies announce a million $ turnover at the end of every Financial year.
Now, please don’t get me wrong I no where want to discourage you from doing what gives pleasure to your heart and soul. In fact, I too belong to the above written 97% category. What I only want to state is, have you ever wondered how long does the honey-moon period of your purchases last? Probably a week, a fortnight or maximum, a month. But surely, not after that?
This happens with most of us, we buy what we can afford at the moment, the thought of getting satisfaction for a long term doesn’t cross our minds even once. BUT, we need to mend this. We need to start making purchases not only that we can afford, but the ones that gives us long time satisfaction
I can’t say about the rest two, but I have used the first one and yes it does make a difference !
